12/12 Icicles and Inglenooks: A Narthen Christmas at Shakespears. Doors 7.30PM heart-lifting music that includes polyphonic, unaccompanied carols from Yorkshire and beyond, and tunes that make you want to dance. Throw into the mix a few irreverent songs about pheasants and other seasonal fare, and you’ve got a show that’ll thaw your icicles and warm your inglenooks. 14/12 The Armitt Family + Archive film: The Kipper Family at Alder Bar, New Musical Traditions Club. Doors 7.30PM, Tunes session before the first act starts at 8PM.Gill, Samuel, Grace and Sean sing Derbyshire village carols in a tradition that their family has continued for centuries. Gill’s father Brian Armitt led the carollers in the villages of Wardlow and Foolow, when the tradition was for the inhabitants of the villages to sing through the night from door-to-door and village-to-village until the dawn rose the next day.
